Bespoke Commissions

As a maker, Caius is always happy to discuss the possibility of commissioning bespoke work. This could be a gold version of an existing design, a larger scale version of a piece of work, or an independent proposition for a unique piece. If you would like to enquire about commissioning, please get in touch by email or on Instagram using the links below.

The monolith goblet, 2022/23

The Monolith Goblet was commissioned by The Incorporation of Goldsmiths as part of Caius’ Outstanding Student Award 2022, and was made to form part of the Incorporation’s permanent collection.
Commissioned for the Scottish Goldsmiths Trust Outstanding Student Award, this imposing goblet is all hand made by Caius; the entire piece is made from hand-raised, recycled sterling silver, before being engraved and gold plated, creating “a pattern that creates the effect of sunlight falling on the sea.”

The piece was designed using CAD, then was reworked and refined under the tutorage of Dr Karen Westland. A constant line of contact was kept with the Scottish Goldsmiths Trust, ensuring the goblet was finished on schedule and to a high standard of making.

Dr Karen Westland, the 2014 winner of the same prize, who said: “It was a pleasure to support Caius with the making of the sophisticated and elegant goblet design. Caius' considered approach combined with enthusiasm to push his skills resulted in a professional approach to the commission and a quality silver goblet to be enjoyed by many in future years.

“The commission is an incredible opportunity for recent graduates to contribute to the Incorporation's growing collection which in turn bolsters both the legacy and future of silversmithing in Scotland.”

RAchael, 2022

These twin sterling silver liqueur tumblers were commissioned by Rachael for her 25th Wedding Anniversary. Contacting Caius through social media, she discussed and agreed upon a design, and was kept up to date on the progress of her bespoke pieces. She now has these special gifts to share and treasure with her husband for years to come.

Process of Commissioning Work

  1. Get in touch! Either message through Instagram or send in an email, and we can discuss your ideas and requests for your very own bespoke design, and come up with a finalised design brief. This is completely free of charge, and Caius is happy to talk through all aspects of the process with you, including material choices, sizing, and a rough idea of time and costs.

  2. Using your design brief as guidance, Caius will create a range of hand drawn and CAD designs for you to chose from, or adapt into something truly perfect for you. A price and timeframe for the project will then be presented to you for approval.

  3. Upon agreeing to go ahead with the commission, a deposit of 50% of the agreed price is required as confirmation, and the remaining 50% will be paid upon delivery of the commissioned piece.

  4. As everyone’s bespoke pieces will be unique, delivery times for each project will differ. Feel free to contact Caius for updates on the progress of the pieces!
